About

The Spandau Moritzkirche was potentially the oldest church in the modern Berlin area, with origins dating back to a wooden structure around 1180. Later replaced by stone in the 13th century, the church underwent numerous transformations before eventually disappearing from the cityscape. This exhibition at the Gotisches Haus traces the fascinating architectural and religious history of this lost site. Through archaeological findings and historical documents, the display reconstructs the significance of the church for the local community. It offers a rare glimpse into the medieval layers of Berlin’s urban evolution.
