About
Käte Niederkirchner (1909–1944) was considered an icon of antifascist resistance in the GDR. During that era, numerous workplaces, vacation homes, kindergartens, and even a ship were named in her honor. Today, her memory persists through two streets in the Mitte and Pankow districts, as well as a memorial plaque unveiled in 1989 at her former home on Pappelallee 22. With this exhibition on the contradictory legacy of the Niederkirchners, the Museum Pankow sheds light on the complex history of the family. Visitors can explore the multifaceted narrative of a life intertwined with the political upheavals of the 20th century.
